Community Organizations' Responses to

Proposed Projects:

Several community organization testified in response to the specific project proposals offered to the Planning Board in March and April 2009. Some were opposed to the projects, others were supportive, and others simply offered neutral commentary.

Randolph Hills Civic Association:

Randolph Hills is a community to the east of the White Flint Sector, directly across the railroad tracks. Randolph Hills Civic Association represents over 5,000 residents, much larger than any other community association in the area, and is active in Friends of White Flint. As their presentation to the Planning Board indicates, Randolph Hills is a troubled area, which provides workforce housing for the White Flint Sector, and is seeking improvements in the Sector.

Dan Hoffman, a Friends of White Flint residential member, presented the RHCA's response.

Fallstone Homeowners Association:

Fallstone is a residential community just west of the Sector, across Woodglen. John Fry, head of the Fallstone Homeowners' Association is a Resident Member of the Friends of White Flint Board of Directors, and has been active in the White Flint Advisory Committee and the Steering Committee. Fry testified to the Planning Board that the 4,000 residents are looking forward to a new White Flint.

Luxmanor Citizens Association:

Luxmanor is a community to the west of the White Flint Sector, across Old Georgetown Road. Luxmanor has proposed to fund its own "jitney" service to increase mobility to the Metro station and throughout the White Flint Sector. Friends of White Flint Board Secretary Ken Hurdle is a resident of Luxmanor, and testified before the Planning Board that his extensive research on new urbanism proposals such as the White Flint Plan had produced no instances in which the overall plan had failed (available on video).

Paula Bienenfeld presented the Luxmanor response.

Crest of Wickford Condominium Association:

Crest of Wickford is a townhouse community on the west side of Rockville Pike just south of the Sector. Like other communities in that area, Crest of Wickford was designed to have only limited access. Mary Ward presented the Crest of Wickford response.

Garrett Park Estates - White Flint Park:

Garrett Park Estates - White Flint Park is one of the most active neighborhoods commenting on the White Flint Sector Plan. (Note: their community web site does not appear to be working.) Located just south of the Sector, below White Flint Mall, GPE-WFP has consistently opposed efforts at increasing density or height in the areas bordering its edge, and has opposed making a "ring road" on its border. GPE-WFP is generally concerned about the proposed revisions to the White Flint Mall.

The GPE-WFP response to the developers' proposal was presented over two worksessions by Suzanne Hudson (Co-Chair of Friends of White Flint), Natalie Goldberg and Glen Adler. See after Page 5 in the link.

Tilden Woods/Old Farm/Walnut Woods Citizens' Association:

Old Farm, Tilden Woods and Walnut Woods are neighborhoods to the west of White Flint. Members of the association have been active in the White Flint Sector Plan process from the beginning, and Barnaby Zall (Co-Chair of Friends of White Flint) is a resident of the neighborhood. Ed Rich, President of the Citizens' Association and a residential member of Friends of White Flint, gave the response to the developers' proposals (available on video).
